I have a td6 it will run on deisel but will only fire unevenly on gas will not keep running we sprayed eather in and it ran until the eather was burned up then died .When we choke it it will fire but will not keep running .We pulled the flote bowl off the gas runs in and the flote shuts it of at about the right level, the jets are both open, gas is new, breather is clean ,plugs are clean, there is fire from the coil,it was running fine then it just won't start.

I have an Austin-Western 99 road grader with IHC UD-16 engine. Mine will fire right up on gas but won't come up to speed; it's like it's flooding itself out. I get it to run right by shutting off the gas as soon as it starts, and when it starts to run smoothly I slowly turn the shutoff valve back on. Works for me. My brother ran a TD-24 many years ago and that was the only way he could start it.

I had the same type of problem with my TD9 not starting. The problem was the butterfly shaft in the intake manifold was sticking, so the valves were not closing all the way. If I remember right, the butterfly valves close off most of the intake, to force air to be drawn thru the carb. On the TD9, there is a fork at the front of the manifold at the end of the shaft that wasn't moving all the way when the linkage was moved to switch to gas starting. I'm not sure if TD6 is the same, but if there is this type of fork, try moving the linkage to start and then push the fork by hand further in the direction that the linkage moved.

The passages under the jets to the venturi could be clogged. Remove the jets and spray carb cleaner through the passages. You may have to remove the carb and run a small wire through the passages to get any stubborn junk out. I assume you have not had the mag off or messed with the mag timing.

there is a set of butterflies in the intake manifold somewhat like in a carburator. in the gas starting position the butterflies need to be open to allow the gas to the cylinders. also there is a set of gas starting valves in the head that are allowed to open when the butterflyes are open. check the linkages an make sure they are oporateing freely. also under the valve cover there is a V type linkage or possibly a ball socket type linkage that could be broke or bent. these linkages allow the starting valves to open and close when the gas to diesel lever is moved. I wouldnt use either to start the engine on gas or diesel. useing either will damage the pistons> i just rebuilt a TD-6 engine that was started with either and the rings & ring grooves were blown out of the pistons. check the linkages and the butterflies to see if they are working and adjusted properly. if everything is set right it will start up easy on gas

How do we get the carb off ? Do we have to take the manifold loose there is one nut on the back side that seems to be impossible to get to with any thing we have in our tool box? Maybe a special tool. The linkage is free . Wehave not removed the valve cover yet. truckbummer.

It has been a long time but it seems like I had to bend an open end wrench to get the carb off
