I have come across a D4 crawler that was manufactured by LaPlant-Choate that I would like to restore. The Serial No. for the crawler is 4BX-1220. Can anyone tell me when this crawler was manufactured? Are there reference/instruction/service manuals available out there that I can obtain and if so, where? Also, there is a Balmar Industrial Model G-60 four wheel drive backhoe that I am looking at. I cannot find this machine listed anywhere. Any thoughts on this piece of equipment (who manufactured it, when, information available, etc.)? Any info that you can provide would be helpful. Any thoughts on a price range for the crawler and backhoe? I doubt that both run. I have pictures if anyone is interested.

Bakllmar is a Ford tractor conversion company. Most wer 2000 3000 and 4000 Fords. They take a the tractor and make a subframe for it with 2 chanboxes like a skid loader or motor grader. and they had a cone clutch in each side fro the steering. I saw a 2000 Ballmar last year at a salvage yard thinks its been bought now.

If it is a D-4 it is a Caterpillar, with a La-Plant-Choate attachment. La-plant-Choate made loader and dozer attachments for a number of manufacturers as well as scrapers and pipe layers. You will have to locate the serial number plate for the tractor itself to determine the serial number for the tractor. The sponsors that advertise on this site may have a manual for the tractor. The manuals for the attachment may be a little harder to come by.

I HAVE A 1961 BALMAR 4WD BACKHOE THAT I RUN EVERY DAY. IT HAS A WAINROY HOE AND FRONT LOADER.
IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE TRACTOR WAS MADE BY THE BALTOMORE TRACTOR CO. IN MARYLAND. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT MY UNIT IS ONE OF ONLY 3 MADE FOR THE US AIR FORCE. WOULD LIKE A MANNUAL IF YOU FIND ONE. THANKS
