Hydraulic fluid compatibility

Last year, when I bought a JD450C, I got all sorts of conflicting advice about what was compatible for hydraulic fluid, so since I knew it had been dealer maintained, I bought Deere Hy-Gard fluid. Now, I have a Case 580SuperE as well, and the manual specifies "Case TCH" (or C3 20W). My local bulk plant doesn't list any of the above. I always thought it was detergent(red) or non-detergent(yellow) and don't mix them! Any suggestions? Or should I just knuckle under to the factories?

Tractor Supply carries a hydraulic fluid that meets the Case TCH spec. It is expensive(about $25.00 for 5 gal.) but it is cheaper than Case TCH fluid. They also carry hydraulic fluid that does not meet the TCH spec. Look at the label and get the right stuff. I use the TSC fluid in my case 480 CK and have never had any problems. I always make sure that after market fluid meets the manufacturer's spec of the equipment that I am going to put it in before I use it.

tried tsc fluid in the ford 555b, hydraulics ran so hot you could stick a pen through the hydraulic hoses, burnt up the torque converter. I'd stick with using hytran and hy-gard, and dont switch them, i dont know about hy-gard in place of hytran but i do know the neighbor replaced pumps in his deere tractor after his boy came up and got a bucket of hytran because it was low.

TCH stands for Transmission,Converter,Hydraulic fluid. It is Cases fits everything fluid,it is the same as IH Hytran,or John Deere Hyguard. Any Tractor Hydraulic fluid that meets Allisson C3 specs is fine to use,it will state it on the label, along with the viscosity. The 20W is the viscosity depending where you live you might want to go higher or lower with the viscosity, winter is coming soon enough so 20W is fine. If the tractor is used in very hot weather you might consider using 30W, extreme cold 10W. Keep clean fluid and filters in the shuttle and it will last a very long time, neglect it and you are going to face some expensive repairs. Hope this helps Terrance
