case 310 sproket nut revisited

Thanks to all who replied to my first post reguarding the loose sprocket. I have found that the sprocket is tight if you try and turn it clock wise or counter clockwise, the only movement is in and out which seems to indicate that the splines are ok. Just the nut is not up to the sprocket. I can't move the nut its so tight. So the question is did the final pull out a little? Not sure how it is helded in, i assume it rides on a bearing which may be worn. I guess I will have to take it apart, but was thinking of just adding a spacer..

I thought I would throw in my two cents worth. I replaced both sprockest on my 310G. The first sprocket I got from All Parts International, made by Nexus, fit like a glove. By the time I got around to do the other side and order a second sprocket All Parts Internationl had been sold to Southworth-Milton. The sprocket I got from them was for a 350 and didn't fit correctly. After a lot of dicking around I ended up making a spacer out of a piece of 1/4 inch thick flat stock steel plate. 1/4 inch was the thickness that worked for me.The problem I ran had when the sprocket was moved out 1/4 of an inch was that the 3 inch nut that holds the sprocket on when tight against the sprocket still has a few threads exposed on the inside of the nut. Because this nut needs to be tighted to over 1000 ft.lbs I would like to see all the threads ingaged in the exle staft. I think I am going to machine a 1/4,+/- of an inch of the out side face of the sprocket to fix this problem. Also, with the sprocket installed as above I found that the sprocket did not quite line up down the center of the rolls. There are shims,on my crawler anyway, located between the track frame and the side plate. I took these shims out and every thing cane back in alignment. Hope this helps. Warren

Greg, I doubt very much the axle has pulled out, With the newer sprockets you need to make sure, that the 1/2" spacer is between the sprocket and the final drive housing,as the 350 sprocket has a shorter hub that the old 310 sprocket. If you leave it lose it will eventually ruin your axle,sprocket, and nut, do yourself a favor and make sure you get it in there.Hope this helps Terrance

Sounds like you are missing the required spacer for a 350 sprocket. The spacer needed for putting a 350 sprocket on a 310 is about .5" wider than the 310 spacer. The final hasn't pulled out, take a look at the backside of your other sprocket. Does the thickness of shoulder look the same as the sprocket in question? Chances are, the shoulder on the one that isn't loose is thicker(indicating a 310 sprocket) or it could be the same (indicating a 350 sprocket with the correct wider spacer installed).
