Does anyone have a reference for types & widths of tracks best suited for different uses? Just a rookie here confused over different types and which are best suited for what use. Thanks. Brian

A good reference on heavy equipment is the book "Moving the Earth" by H. L. Nichols. It does discuss this issue and also has lots of solid engineering discussion of excavation practice. There are other similar handbooks.

soft and swampy wider the better....hard dirt and big rocks the narrower the better...be more specific on the application I.E. are you pulling farm inplements,Dozing or carrying guns to war....lotsa specifics left out on your part...tracks are used for lotsa different things and every application has its own desighn criteria...Big Mike
