Won't turn over

I've got a problem and I need your help!! I have a Case 310E diesel. It has always ran fine, however, a couple of times it had cranked over slowly like a low battery, but it cranked fast enough to start. I busted a hydraulic hose about a month ago, and it's sit since then. I repaired the hose, and tried to start it, but it cranked too slowly to start it. The battery wore down very quickly, and then it wouldn't turn over at all. I've tried jumping it, replaced two suspect cables, and it still won't crank over. It just clicked when I turned the starter switch, but now it's even stopped that. Where should I start? It doesn't look like there's too much to it.....just a switch, relay, solonoid, and the starter motor. Your help would really be appreciated. Thanks Brad

Sounds like hydraulic problems, disconnect the pump and see if the engine will turn over.

I would start by getting a battery brush and cleaning the inside of the battery terminals and then clean the battery post until they are both bright and shiney. Charge and check the battery to make sure it is good. If the battery post are corroded, you cannot charge the battery or even jump start with another battery. If it won't turn over after getting the electrical connections clean, I would pull the starter and take it to a generator/starter shop and have it tested. If the starter is bad, you can probably rebuild it yourself if you have a little mechanical talent. The parts are relatively cheap to rebuild a starter. I have done several myself after a shop screwed up my starter.

Brad check and clean all your connections especially the grounds. If it just clicks then it is possible the solonoid is bad,you can check that by jumping accros it with a screw driver, cross the two big terminals, your starter should turn then,If it does not then the problem is possibly the starter,if it does then it is the soloniod or keyswitch circut or the wiring.Finding electrical problems can be a problem sometimes, but if you go slow and test each item you will soon find the problem.More often than not it is just a bad connection. Hope this helps Terrance
