Unseizing an engine

I have been searching the archives, and have not found too much information regarding engine seizure due to overheating. My neighbour's TD-5 overheated and seized while traveling up hill because the shutter was closed on the front of the dozer. This happened about 14 years ago. I was wondering if this is fixable without much effort (ie ring job). I have read that the crank bearings may need replacement. I was wondering how hard that would be. Or, should I be looking at getting a rebuild kit and doing it the right way. Or, would a replacement motor be easier/cheaper to find. It would be neat to have an old beast like that sitting in the yard. I think that the undercarriage is pretty good, because I only know of the track falling off once. I hope you guys can help. Mark

Pull the engine and tear it down. If it got hot enough to tie up, it probably has other problems also. The pistons could have galled themselves to the walls, bearings could have siezed, possible cracked head,or block, plus whatever else has transpired in 14 years of sitting. Once its apart you can make a decision of which way to go.
