Looking for anyone familiar with old Allis crawler engine clutches. I have an Allis HD6G, with an Auburn clutch. The connector linkage between the throw-out sleeve and pressure plate fingers is held on by a pin and cotter pin at each end. The cotter pins, even hardened ones, continue to shear off allowing the pins to come out and the linkage to flop around. The previous owner had replaced the clutch and pressure plate a short while ago. Did he maybe forget to do something? It has now broken one finger off the pressure plate from one of linkages coming loose.

Perhaps you have a bad bearing in there some where causing excessive vibration. -Greg

Greg, That is a possibility, I can't see anything noticeably wrong thru the access cover. I would have hoped the previous owner who put the new clutch in would have checked everthing, but you never know. I'm going to try to pull the clutch this weekend, and hope I find something obvious. Other wise the pins might get the welder treatment.

Make sure clevis pins are installed so that when engine is running the centrifugal force is acting on the head of the clevis pin not the cotter pin.If they are improperly installed they can shear the cotter pin off.

Glad to hear someone is familiar with these clutches. I did make sure the cotter pin end was following direction of travel after talking with some other people, didn't solve the problem. Any more ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hopefully you will understand the following. All this is concerning the pressure plate: There is a lever link that connect the shifting sleeve with the actuating levers. This lever link has openings where the link pins go. The length of these opening are not the same. If memory serves me correctly, the longer opening of these lever link go toward the actuating levers. It not, the clutch will not go over center properly. Maybe one or two of these lever links are faced in the wrong direction. Have had this problem years back. Wound up taking the clutch can and pressure plate off to correct the problem. Clutch had just been out of the machine and repaired. If you need copies of the pages in the service manual, drop me your USPS address and I'll make you copies and send them to you. Good luck, Phil
