Hi, I own a JD winch, from a 350 crawler tractor. I log tree with my farm tractor and drive the winch with the PTO. The internal pump in the winch, is worn, and can i run pressure from remote of my tractor to operate the winch brake and clutch? How the pressure and GPM i need? Thank you!! It is supposed to run around 1000 - 1200 p.s.i. Are you sure the pump is the problem? Most hydraulic problems are caused by the control valve, not the pump. Especially if you have the rotary valve and not the spool valve used on the very early machines. Usually such problems first show up when the winch won't free-spool consistently.

Hi, JDEMARIS, the valve is spool type. When i run the PTO at high RPM, about 580 RPM, full throttle for the tractor, the winch operate normally, but when the RPM is low, the winch won't free-spool. I will adjust the remote for 1200 PSI and try it with the tractor hydrolic system. Thank for all. Bernard le mécano Québec Canada

Maybe you're right then. A replacement pump should not be hard to find. I'm sure John Deere charges a lot for it, but it's just a little Webster pump, 2 or 4 g.p.m. The same pump is used on some snow-plow setups on pickup trucks. Seems your idea of using an outside source for hydraulics ought to work okay too.
