Thanks guys...I thought I heard someone say once that there is one particular series to stay clear of.I suppose it's a matter of keeping good maintenence standards.

Jim I think they are a good tractor, just too expensive for cat to build so the upped the HP and size of the D3 and called them a D4 and a D5. I would prefer a D4D. Later Bob

Hi, Jim. The D4D is one of the best small tractors that God ever let pump diesel fuel into. If they had a weak spot, it would have been that they didn't break down enought to suit Cat's spare parts dept. I have done jobs with them that should oughta had a D7 or D8. It just takes a little longer and you gnaw in from the edges instead of going at it like a bull at a gate but you get there. I don't know of ANYBODY who has had a bad run with one of them, including one or two who never even looked like keeping the maintenance up to them. Hope this helps. You have a wonderful day.
