I noticed that there is not much good said about the JD 1010 and 2010 tractors.
I bought a 1010 from my uncles estate sale about a year ago. It had been in storage over 18 years in a shed.
I just got time this weekend to get it started.
I put kroll oil in the cylinders, changed oil, new plugs, cleaned carburetor and points and distributor cap. I couldn't run it too long as I didn't have anything in the radiator. Next time I go to the farm I'll have some antifreeze and run the engine awhile. Engine was a little hard to keep running until it warmed up. Maybe rings stuck a little? After all it's been 19 years plus since it was started.
Engine sounded very smooth and surprisingly quiet, especially compared to the two banger.
It looks a lot like my 430 JD from the middle back.
Is the 4 cyl. motor what everybody doesn't like?

Phil, my dad purchased one used 1970. used it to lay out and cultivate tobacco rows until his death in 1985. its been a good tractor for us. i don't disagree that the XX10 series had problems. i just never had problems with ours. i'd say it has the most accurate hydraulic 3 pt. of all my tractors.

Phil,

I am new to the 1010's also, having recently bought a 1010c. Do not know the extent of everyone's concern but for the most part it seems to center around the engine. Deere built this one using a sleeve plate with the sleeves in it. Because of this you can not replace individual cylinder sleeves and must replace the entire assembly. To add insult to injury, this item is only available from Deere. Other than that, I've not heard of any other problems to note.

Sorry, thought I was on the JD board.
I have a JD 450 crawler and was checking this board also. If anybody wants to answer my question I would appreciate it.
