I am just finishing the resteration on a allis model M. I have never seen any postings on the best way to put street shoes on the gousers. The original manual showes some steel pads that bolted on for street use. I called a rubber supplier, there cost for 62 pads was more than I can afford. I own a weld fab. /machine shop so I can do a lot of work. Any suggestions?

Rex, If your're looking for inexpensive hardwood, get some old wooden pallets. Those stringers are about 2X3, sometimes 3X3 and are they tough! Try taking one apart sometime.

Take a look at my crawler on the tractor photo's page under "1959 International T5 Farm Crawler" as you will see what I used. I made up Elm pads that bolt up to the growser pads and they have a generous radius all around so they don't mark up grass. Works well and I haven't had any complaints from any of the show grounds when this machine is showed. Shawn

Shawn, It looks like you did a great job on your tractor. I dont think there is any place in Phoenix that I could buy elm. Where did you get yours? and how much would it cost?

My father has a small saw-mill.Elm is quite common in Southern Ontario. It doesn't have to be Elm,, just a tough hard material.
