Hello all, I have nineteen acres of land to clear of old landscaping and brush and grade soil. When I am done, I will need it to grade numerous farm roads every year and I am shopping for a small dozer for the job. I have a local importer of Japanese equipment nearby that has several nice Mitsubishi BD2G and Komatsu D21 for sale. I have received the help of a friend who is an experienced dozer operator and mechanic, but he is not familiar with these dozers. He has inspected the dozers and says that they are in good condition and appear to be well maintained. However, he is not familiar with gray market dozers and he has concerns with parts and manual availability. He says that the Komatsu dozer may be easier to fix because there is a lot of dealerships. He is not aware of any Mitsubishi dealerships who deal with dozers. Does anybody know about the details about whether parts and service is possible with these dozers? Thanks Dave

Hi, I have a D21S-5 in Kuala Lumpur. Had it for 3 years, and have done lots of hard work with it. My block is mostly clay and rock. Repairing is quite easy if you are mechanically minded. I have rebuilt the tracks and undercarriage, had the clutches and brakes out many times, modified the idler bearings, repaired/replaced many hydraulic seals and hoses, and lots more. Parts are quite easy to get as the D21 series has been going for a long time (my dozer is 1984 model). At the moment I have the braked out to replace the shoes - locally getting new material bonded on - takes 1 day and about USD50 per side for trhe shoes. Typical in this environment is that it is easier to rebuild than buy new, but I can get any new part if needed. Quite a few other companys that supply parts as well as Komatsu - especially undercarriage - all these companies are worldwide. email me if you have any specific questions - I bought a parts manual as well - good to see the breakdowns to figure out how something works, and to get it back together right.

Thanks very much for the replies Jay, Terry and Jim. I have done a bit of telephone research and I have been told the following generalities: 1. Both the Mitsubishi BD2G and Komatsu D21 are top-quality dozers. 2. The Mitsubishi BD2G has at least one good parts distributor of parts which is committed to providing parts support. However, the parts may need to imported from Japan which may take awhile. 3. The Komatsu has a relatively wide parts network in the USA. Some parts may need to be imported as well. However, not all Komatsu parts dealers like dealing with Gray market dozers. There are a couple of after market final drive and track manufacturers that handle Komatsu D21 parts.Komatsu's are Is this true? Does anybody have knowledge that either supports of contradicts these statements? Thanks, Dave

Other dealers in Komatsu D21 parts especially undercarriage are Berco, and Triumphal Group - both worldwide, and I have succesfully bought (much cheaper than original) full sets of pins and bushes, clutch plates - full set, and grousers. All still available for my 1984 D21S - Hope this helps - How did you get on with your purchase decision ?
