IH 2600 hoe swing motors?

Looking at an older IH backhoe, I think a 2600 model. I noticed the swing is run by hydraulic motors on each side, not cylinders. I have never seen this before and wondered if it was a bad thing. I am sure it is factory, but nobody else ever did it that way (to my knowledge) and I wonder if it is something I should stay away from. Thanks

I've looked at several of those machines here in Western NY. Every one that I looked at the Hyd Motors worked just fine but the hoe pivots on a big splined shaft. That shaft was wore and so was the sockets that it mated with. It looked like a poor arangement all the way around. To fix it you would have to cut or boar out the swing pivot, weld in a new one and install a new spline shaft. Way too expensive for those old machines. It's a shame though because in every case the rest of the machine was well maintained and in decent shape. Just bad engineering I guess.

How did that work? Did it stand up to punishment?
