Could someone tell me what the difference between the TD9 and TD6 engine is? We just bought a td9 crawler with a drott loader and 4in1 bucket that needs a new motor. We got a motor from a neighbor, which we thought was the correct one. Runs fine, (Gas then diesel) but should have done some measuring before we did all this. Anyways.....our motor is the wrong one, too small. We were told it is a TD 6, and we need a td 9. As a result we have a good td6 (we think) for sale, but need clarification for sure, please advise. Thanks.

James. Do you have the serial # for your TD-9? That will identify the year. In general, where is the air cleaner on it located? If it is just in front of the operators position between the seat and the engine, then it is a 335. If it is located on the left SIDE of the engine (looking forward), then it is a 350cu engine. The S/N will tell for sure. Jim P

James, the TD-9 engine is a 350 cu in engine and has 50 HP. the TD-6 has 264 cu in and is around 35 HP. these engines aren't interchangeable. there is too much differences in size.the 264 is the smallest of the start on gas switch to diesel engines that IH made.IH did make much smaller diesels such as in the TD-340, TD-4 & 5. many farm tractors shared the same engines as the crawlers. all the smaller diesels were direct start on diesel.

James the TD6 engine is 264Cubic Inch and the TD9 is around 335 CI I believe but not exactly sure. The TD6 is the smallest diesel they made, the T4 was only gasoline. Later Bob

P.S. Another option is to locate a T9 or W9 gas only engine. Depending on what I find when I get the other one home, I may have a good shortblock available in the not to distant future. I am still trying to find a head gasket. I have heard that a valve grind set is still available from Case/IH but I havn't had a chance to get up to a dealership to find out yet. I priced sleeve and piston sets for the gas/diesel engine and they were 800-900 dollars on the internet. Good luck

I JUST DID THE HEAD ON MY T-9 WITH THE W9 AG MOTOR. A CYLINDER HEAD SHOP DID THE VALVE JOB AND HAD NO PROBLEM IN GETTING PARTS. THE HEAD GASKET CAME IN A COMPLETE OVERHAUL KIT, EMAIL ME AND I LOOK FOR THE PART NUMBER OF THE KIT.

Bob is correct. The TD6 engine is at 264 and is simular if not the same as a MD and WD6. I believe the early TD-9's were 335 cu in and later 350 cu in. They would correspond to a wheatland WD-9 engine. I am working on rebuilding a TD-9 also. I have one parts machine and working on getting a second one home. The one I have here is a 1943 model built for the Army.

Hello everyone. I just brought home a Drott Skid-loader. It is, I guess, based on an IH TD-9 Crawler Tractor. Starts on gasoline and then switches over to diesel fuel. I had a long-time excavator check it out and he said that the undercarriage is in good shape ("sprockets aren't pointed and pins are round"). I got a parts engine w/ it. I bought it from a guy that had it for the last several years, but only used it just a few times--he had planned to reclear a farm that had set fallow for 17 years, but changed his mind as he was already busy enough. I plan to put in a short ultralight airstrip w/ it w/in next 3 years after which time I'll probably sell it to someone else who has use for it. I got several manuals w/ the Drott, they have dates between '59 and '65. Could anyone tell me what year it is? The serial # is TDGB 57839. Thanks!
