cat brake linings soft vs hard

anyone ever used soft linings in cat crawler i know they do not last quite as well but is there any other reason not to use them thanks mike

Mike, what are you using them in? wet or dry clutched? If they where going in a machine with solid bands and wet clutches I would use the hard ones. If you have an older machine with bands that come out in pieces without pulling the clutches then the soft ones would brake better and if they wore out you could change them again without pulling the clutches again. they are dry 3piece bands changing them is not a problem so i am not worried about wear and the machine is not used that much one is d4 7u about 13000#s other is d8 1h about 45000#s one reliner i have talked to is concerend that it will rip lining from band if use soft thanks mike

Well Mike I guess he knows his linings better than I do. Might be that he doesn't see the drums and figures that most are gouged and rusted a lot on the outside, being the machine is so old. You might as well go with that he thinks the hard ones will still stop you and you only need them to turn when you have no load on the tractor. If you have hard steering make sure the clutches are adjusted right an get well released, not still dragging when you turn. Later Bob
