Worn backhoe teeth

I have an old Eaton, Yale, and Towne backhoe; the buchet has obviously been heavily repaired, but the teeth are quite warn, especially the ones on the outside (2-3 inch length). They are welded on. What's the best (or the most economical) way to improve the teeth: grind or cut out the welds and fit new teeth, build up the old teeth with hard surfacing rod or welded on metal scraps, or attach some kind of hollow tooth over the old teeth?

Best way to fix worn backhoe teeth is to weld a piece of auto leaf spring on the digging side of the tooth, it will last and last!

When bucket teeth are welded on that usually means the shank is worn to a point where it can no longer hold the tooth on like it is supposed to, if you dont want to replace the shank and tooth assembly I would recommend trying to cut the weld holding the tooth on then weld on a new tooth.

Charlie, According to the fellow at Case, some people weld them on but they are really only supposed to be peined on. If you can tell me where to send it, I can take a picture of my bucket which has very worn teeth plus one stub. I have the replacement tooth also but I havn't installed it yet Gary

I know what you mean as I have that kind of tooth on my bobcat bucket. But they usually need to go over a stub that is designed to take this kind of tooth, which is not what I have. I don't know if I can use them in my case.

I have an old IH 2500 backhoe (im not sure but I think the backhoe part is Warner) I got a tooth from a case backhoe that fit right over the stub. They make two kinds. one is cast and the other is welded up from a flat plate and a u channel. I got the latter for about 9 dollars at a Case dealership. You heat the side and pein the edge into the dimple on the side of the stub to hold it on.

Was the stub intended as a stub for a tooth to go over, or was it just a very warn tooth, which is my situation? Mine doesn't have the indentations in the side to peen the tooth sides into.
