Have a '50 TD-6 and need to know if it is 12 or 24 volt system and starter. Have one large 12v battery in it and it is hard to start and the starter keeps shorting out. Have had starter rebuilt 2x and now needs a new armature. I have the service manuals but the dont tell anywhere what the needed voltage is. Any help would be great.

It is supposed to be 12 volt. if i remember right it takes 2 12 volt batteries that together produce around 2200 amps. you also need good battery cables.I used size O welding cable for cables on my TD-6. also you must have good grounds. its best to ground it right to the chasy.it should turn over pretty fast with good hot batteries as long as its in the gas starting position.

12 volt is all it needs. It should spin over pretty easy as long as you are in gas mode. I believe they originally came with two 6 volt batteries. I have had problems with getting starters rebuilt as well. The best solution seems to be getting ones that were factory rebuilt. Costs about the same $200+, but works out much better. Like its not just some guy trying to make it work, they replace everything properly and what not. -Greg

Hi, Are all of the TD-6's 12 volt, or are some of the older ones 6 volt? I am getting one, and would like to know. Also, are they positive ground, or negative ground. Thanks, Mark
