Have a JD350B loader reverser porblem. Later model. When cold you can push up against a tree and spin the tracks, but as it warmms up the ability to push or spin the track deminishes to next to nothing. I put a guage in to check the regulator valve. When cold in nutural the reading is about 90 psi. When you go to forward it drops to about 60 then jumps to 120 psi. Same for reverse. Again as it warms up forward go's to 60 and stays, it does not jump up to 120. Reverse works fine drops from 90psi in nutural, to 60 when reversed then jumps to 120psi. Will adding shims or removing shims help? Is the forward clutch pack the problem? Do you have to pull the reverser or can you work through the front with it still in the machine? If you have to pull it I'm guessing it slides forward then you maneuver it out the bottom and you dont have to pull the front crossbar? any other suggestions/ideas appreciated. Thanks Jim

Sorry but your reverser needs a complete overhaul as I have done many of these. Yes you pull the motor and work the reverser out through the front. We used to put a long length of pipe on the input shft with a heavy weight like a old J.D flywheel on the other end and work it forward with a floor jack supporting the rear. Be shure to replace the clutch pedal shaft and pedal bushing while you have the reverser out as thats the only way you can. Weld a nut on the old shaft and remove it with a heavy slide hammer. You will need a repair manual to do this. Also run the machine up on some 6x6 planks before tear down. this is not a easy or cheap job, you want to take your time and do it right or you will have to do it all over again.

There are many things that could cause the problem, but chances are the reverser is just plain worn out and needs to be pulled. You can try shimming the pressure up to 150 p.s.i., and/or opening up the "rate of shift" screw, and also . . . make sure the clutch pedal is coming all the way up and the return spring has good tension. It's possible that there is something amiss in the hydrualic control valve assembly, and it CAN be removed with the reverser in place. It's not easy, but I've done it many times. Usually, though, by the time parts get that worn in the valve, the complete reverser needs rebuilding. If it was mine, I would pull the valve assembly off first and check it out, especially the forward-reverse valve and the shift accumlator and stop bolt. You cannot repair it from the front. You must pull the engine, then pull the reverser out the front. Pull the control valve assembly off the side, then the little oil tubes that are exposed once the valve is off, then pull the front cover off the reverser, then pull parts out through the front. Note that the main shaft assembly, that has the forward and reverse clutches on it, rides on adjustable tapered bearings. It is adjusted with shims at the rear of the reverser, which you cannot get to until the reverser is separated from the transmission.
