I'm looking at a Case skidloader model 18 something. It has an Onan 2 cyl gas engine in it. A pretty small machine. The owner told me he tried to start it recently and whatever is driven by the engine is locked up. There are two small v-belts driven by the engine. Any ideas as to what would be locked up? I think the machine is fully hydrostatic. Overall, it's in pretty good shape. Has new tires all the way around and I couldn't see any evidence of any oil leaks anywhere. What is something like this worth? I was thinking around $1200 to $1500. Thanks for any info. Mike

Mike, I worked for Case for 25 years, run a Case boneyard, & own a Case 1816. If you need any help or have any questions call me @ (314) 966-6692. Steve

Question for Steve..... I have an 1816B with a lot of "miles" on it, but in great shape for its age. The problem is when the clutch is engaged the drive wheels want to rotate forwards and backwards until the control levers are moved to compensate for the jerking. Has enough power for turning and lifting full buckets of dirt. It wants to lunge instead of being able to creep slowly when engaging drive levers. Thanks Jim Walch

Had the same problem with mine. The hydraulic drive pump linkage was the culprit. Each side has a 1/4" bolt through a swivel link. I replaced both with new bolts, adjusted the slack out of the drive chains and now it will ease up to the work instead of jumping into it.

Jim,
Were you able to pinpoint your 1816B clutch problems? I might be having similar. Please advise.

Jim, 1st thing I'd check is the linkage, lift the machine off the ground, with the wheels suspended remove the seat, loosen the linkage, start the engine & proceed to tighten or loosen until the wheels stop turning. If this doesn't help, call me @ (314) 966-6692. Steve

Could be an 1816C or an 1818. There should be three pumps driven by the engine, two hydrostatic pumps for each drive and the main hydraulic pump. It would be hard to guess at which pump is locked up but I would start at one of the hydro pumps due to their greater output. The price you mentioned would be a good price to pay if it was in working order but those hydros are expensive. Another item you might look at would be the chain drive, it could be that something has broken and locked up the drive but this would only be noticed when you tried to push it or moved the travel lever.
