Ok... This is a rookie question but I want to certain about the answer. I inherited a early 1950's D2 crawler from my father. It has two large 6 volt batteries hooked together with the positive and negative terminals wired together on one end and the other pos/neg ends going to the starter, switch, etc... Is this considered a 6 volt system or a 12 volt system ? The tractor runs and starts (no pony motor, just a starter) so I am sure that things are wired correctly. Has it been converted to 12 volts ? Thanks for your help.

All D2's with factory direct start are 24 volts. Yours must be a conversion set up for 12 volts.

John, if the two batteries positive posts are hooked together and the two negative posts are hooked together they are in Parrallel and the total voltage will be the same as each batterie. If however the Positive post of one battery is hooked to the negative post of the other battery they are hooked up in Series and the total voltage will be the sum of the voltage of both batteries. If it works as it is just be sure of the polarity when you have to change a batterie, the larger dia post is the positive if there are no markings on the batterie top. Later Bob
