I have been using my Case 310E dozer for clearing some ground. Today, when in reverse, it started making a grinding noise, but reverse was still working. When I tried to go forward in 1st gear, it wouldn't go. It acted as though I had the brakes on. When I let out on the clutch, the engine would bog down. I can go forward in 2nd or 3rd ok, with no noise. This started all at once. Anyone got any ideas where to start looking? Your help will be much appreciated. Thanks Brad

Sure, start looking at the 1st/reverse shaft in the transmission. Unfortunately you have to split the tracks, pull the final drive off on both sides and pull the transmission/planetary out of the frame to take the transmission apart. If you are really lucky it might be the outer bearing on the 1st/reverse shaft and you might be able to replace that without pulling everything. If you pull up the floorboards and take the gearshift off you might be able to get a good look at the problem. Edward
