The 'G' usually identified the machine as a loader. HD-7 and HD-7W were built from 1940 to 1950 and had a 3-71 Detroit engine. HD-7G was a updated HD-6G (HD-6 loader) turbo AC 4 cylinder, later turbo 6 cylinder AC. HD-7Gs were built from the late 50's through the 70's. As far as I know nothing interchanges between the HD-7/HD-7W and the HD-7G. They are completely different machines. The HD-7W is a wide track version of the HD-7.

Lee

I don't know about a HD 7, but on a HD 6, the straight 6 had manual steering clutches, the G had hyd steering clutches

I looked in a parts book for a HD-7. Looks to be 3 different pinion shafts. 2 are 12" long, serial# breaks, and 1 17" long. SN break is at 12022

Suspect the longer shaft is for a wide track machine HD-7W.

I probably could get the parts book to Kinko's if that would help.
