My dad and I have a 77 Ford L9000 dumptruck with a 350 Cummins big cam. We are getting oil in the radiator. Anyone have problems like this before? I was thinking the problem might be the oil cooler on the passenger side of the motor? Any ideas?

Assuming it runs ok (not missing, smoking, knocking, etc), I'd say take the oil cooler off and have it checked first. It could be something else, but that's the most likely. I've seen cavitated liners do that too, but it'll also put coolant in the oil. I saw a 5.9L cummins one time with a blown head gasket that put oil in the coolant, but never an 855. It's theoretically possible though.

H,mmm. Cummins, oil in water, runs ok? Oil cooler.Check it first,b4 you start tearing it all apart,it's high on the suspect list. A cummins shop should have the air test fixture if you don't see anything obvious.

I believe you have a blown head gasket.

Brian, One question before we condem the oil cooler, what color is the material in the radiator? Black and slick or gray and milky ? Black and slimy -- perferated liner , or injector tube, Gray and milky -- most likely oil cooler. george

That's probably where it's coming from.
