Thanks,

Well, you are not the only one with one of these beasts. I got one. I don't know all that much about it, did get old parts book with mine. A fellow on this site did come up with the shift pattern and some info on the blade lift, which I have to follow up on some day as mine does need adjusting. I do not yet know the bore/stroke and displacement or horsepower of the engine. I don't think there is any way to figure out the part numbering system Cat used. Let's see if some answers show up here.

The other day i watched a documentary on a highway that runs from alaska to Briish columbia and they used Cat d82u's when one of them broke down they left it where it broke down. If one got stuck bad they left it there. a few got stuck and they built the road rigth over them.... my point on that is "What a waste of equipment".. but if i could find a cat D82U in my area i would by it for sure.... Thanks

Hi, Folks. The horsepower of the 2U D8 was, if I'm not mistaken, 130hp. Bore and stroke -- no idea --I'm an operator, not a mechanic/fitter or a tech. expert. If you have the complete parts book, you have pretty much all you need to know about Caterpillar's parts numbering system for the machine(s) that the parts book relates to. I'll post a couple of photos in the 'Tractor Photos' section on this site. The best place to get information on old Cat. equipment is at ACMOC.org at the link below. When the page opens, click on the 'Antique Caterpillar Machinery' link at the bottom of the page. You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
