Tommorow I'm going to look at a TD6. I have no other info than the model #. Don't even know if it runs. My dealer's book has serial #s from 1940-1957 and resale values from 1958-1969. Was the tractor still being made thru '69? Why are there no serial #s for '58-'69? Does Case/IH still have parts? Are 3 points optional? Thanks for your help.

the TD& T6 was built from 1940 to 55 then they went to TD-6 seried 61 form 56 to 61 then to the TD-6 series 62 from 63 to 67 then to the newer style E series.the 62 series had a start on diesel with glow plugs 6 cylinder engine i beleive it was a 282 cubic inch engine. the E seroes went back to the 4 cylinder high speed eng. they didnt make a 3 point for any of these machines. they were more intended for industrial use

I have seen one with a 3 pt. I think its more of a custom thing but who knows. Personally, I think using a crawler for farming seems pricey. Tires are much cheaper and easier to replace than tracks. You can buy a nice 3 pt tractor for $2k. If you really need 3 pt, I am sure you could get one of those saginaw kits and make it fit on a td6 with a little work. They are around $600. -Greg

Crawler tractors are used where it is too steep to use wheel tractors. There is 40-50%ground farmed in Inland Empire. Tracks cut down on compaction as one spreads the weight over a bigger area.

Thanks for all the input. Here's what I found when I saw the tractor, serial # 37777: radiator, head, one crank cap & bearing missing. Engine side panels present, hood, grill, air filter off. Manifolds, rocker arm assembly, push rods, valve cover off. Tractor open to weather, water in cylinders, stuck. Front pulley has 6, 1-1/2" studs, don't know if something's missing. Tread looks wider than 50", outside to outside, pads look like 13" or 14" wide. Low seat, drawbar. Drive sprockets worn to narrow edge. Tractor was stopped when steam started coming out of exhaust. It looks like it was not abused during it's life, as no damage is showing, except for grill, which does't look that bad. Owner said head and crank cap is not available anywhere. Been 1-2 years? since opened. I'm new to crawlers. Can it be brought back to life, and if so what's it worth now?? Cost to move, about $150.

If you need the head and what not, I can help you out. If you dont want the tractor, let me know where it is. If its not too far away I would be interested. -Greg

I would be interested in the engine side panels. Sounds like the crawler would be quite a project. There has to be better ones to start out with. I have several 6 series crawlers and they are alot more expensive to work on than wheeled tractors. Let me know what you decide to do.

I'm undecided if I want the tractor to restore, sell parts or let someone else have it. If I buy it, I have to move it, and moving is the biggest problem. I'm only equipped for wheel tractors. Would anyone care to comment on the going price of side panels, a radiator, and a head with valves? Preferably someone who is neither buying or selling? Can you mention a few other desireable parts and their values? With a little more info, I can decide to buy it, or let someone else have it. BTW, it's located about 50 miles south of San Francisco. My email address is above.

i would figure its worth $500.00 tops. scrap price.probabley needs undercarriage, forsure it needs a engine rebuild .that will cost around $3800.00 if you do it yourself. if you have to hire it out then double that. so now you way above what the machine would be worth if it were restored. I think if it were me i would buy a laster model crawler for around 10K since thats what you would end up into the TD6. where is it located? I i just restored a 54 TD-6 and would like to find side curtains.
