With 40 acres to clear, about 30acres of pasture but lots of large rocks, a few about 4 feet across, I am looking to buy something to clear and maintain it. Also could pick up some cash clearing and cutting trails for landowners. First consideration is a crawler loader with 3 point capabilites. Then I see this Magnatrack (Struck) Mini Dozer. Appreciate any and all suggestions. Money is a object but could go up to 25K if needed.

Thanks to all. Deas; Thank you for the info and the links. Very helpful. Someday I intend to come "down under" and see your country for myself. Bob

Hi, Bob. Happy to be able to help, Mate. Feel free to drop me an e-mail when/if you come down here. I'd love to meet osme of the people I've corresponded with on the various BB's I go to - here, ACMOC, Antique Caterpillar, etc.. and put some faces to some names and swap some experiences a little less laboriously than by typing them out. Maybe even over a 'coldie'. I also wouldn't mind hearing what you eventually buy, if you wouldn't mind posting or dropping me a line. Also, feel free to post or e-mail with any other queries. You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hi, Bob. Much as I like operating dozers, especially good - Cat. - dozers, I would like to suggest that you think about a track - or even 4WD - loader with a 4-in-1 bucket and rippers. One of these machines will be doing all sorts of odd jobs around the place while a dozer will sitting back in the shed or yard eating its head off and doing nothing. A good purpose-built front end loader, tracked or 4WD, is about as close as you will get to an all-purpose fix-it machine on most farms. You might like to check out this previous discussion at the link below. There is also another discussion entitled, Track loader for clearing - any good?, on page 7 of this forum. Hope this helps. You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

go with a backhoe, easier/cheaper to maintain. And just bury the 4 ft rocks :) If you got $25k to spend, you can easily get a nice 4wd model. If you want a dozer, go with a D6B or something at $12k-ish. I think clearing with smaller dozers is rather hard on the machines. -Greg

You need a real dozer for that job!! I wouldn't want anything less than a 450 size machine!! AND, if you want to do it fast, you better be looking for something even bigger yet!! Robert

Bob, I may have just what you need. I bought and rebuilt a machine from front to back less than two years ago and have run out of things to do with it. It just sits in an enclosed storage area and with all the time and money I have in it its crazy for me to keep it around. Send me an Email and I'll forward pics and specs to you. bhowell@satx.rr.com
