Just bought a Komastu D31s-16 today. It needs a new muffler and some knobs for throttle and gear selector. Is there a good source for this on the web? I live here in NC and have heard of Mitchell Equipment which is an authorized dealer. Just wanted to know of an aftermarket alternative. Ready to start pushing!! JT

Hey John, I live in Concord, NC, and work on equipment for a living. I honestly haven't heard of or found of anybody locally or otherwise making aftermarket parts for Komatsu that would be "machine specific". There are companies doing "general" things like undercarriage parts, cutting edges, and of course engine parts for those machines equipped with a Cummins. Other than that, everything I've ever run into is a dealer only item, and they are proud of the parts. I replaced the muffler on a PC220LC-6 two weeks ago for a customer. The muffler alone was like $475, and not available anywhere else because it was "machine specific" in the way it was made. If your doing this yourself and have the means to modify the machine/muffler mounting, then there are plenty of aftermarket mufflers available through places like Campbell-Brown, Truck-Pro, etc., but beyond that I'm afraid your stuck with Mitchell. Now for the knobs, etc depending on what your looking for, you can try places like Grainger, McMaster-Carr, J&L Industrial Supply, and I'm sure various other places too. These three though I know carry a variety of different knobs for general purpose use. Now let me add my own request on here with John's, if any of you out there know of a good supplier of aftermarket Komatsu parts such as mufflers, etc. please post it because, like I said, I have never had any success finding one and it would sure help me as well as some of my customers out. Good luck, and have fun with your new toy.

Congrats on your new loader John. I've been lurking around this forum for a while now, and it seems that Komatsu makes a great loader (as well as the rest of their stuff). The D31S has a great reputation from what I've heard. A guy that goes by "Crawler" here actually has a D31S (a 1980 model) and he swears by it. Plus he's an experienced operator, so I'm sure he would have a good idea where to find parts. Let us know how your new loader works out, it'd be interesting to hear how it performs. Good luck...

Hi John. Hey I do swear by my d-31s its great. I am in UTAH and we have a dealer in SALT LAKE that has anything I have Needed. The great thing is I havent really needed much. The guy I bought machine from had just completly replaced the chains and sprockets as well as rebuilt the slack asjusters and it was all under 2500 dollars. I think it all shipped from California. I can find out for ya but chances are youll find something a thousand miles closer. Best of luck, hope you have as good of luck with your machine as I have. Have a great day.
