I keep seeing IH and Dresser loaders advertised that appear to be in great shape (with 4-1 bucket and even backhoes) for pretty cheap prices. When I was a kid, IH was a very respected brand when it came to tractors etc...but I never seem to hear anyone comment one way or the other about their crawlers. After searching the archives, not much is said about them either way. And I guess Dresser bought out IH or vice versa? Who's in charge of the company today? Anyone have experience with these models one way or another? If so would love to hear about them.

Td-7s and 100 loaders are non-turbo machines while td-8s and 125s had the d-239 engine. i personally own and have worked on my td-8. Parts are expensive and are getting harder to come by. As far as someones coment about standing up to a caterpillar, id put mine against it any day. she's very sure-footed on steep slopes and has a good power-to-weight ratio. the 6 way blade and approximately 80 horsepower make them a very good machine for road work, land clearing, back filling. they are small enough to work in tight spots, and have enough power to do big jobs...maybe at a slower speed of a bigger machine, but they will handle it. when she wears out, im going to go with a cat, but if i could find another machine in good shape like her, id own it in a heartbeat. my td-8 works approx 25-30 hours a week spring through fall, and is about as reliable as they come

IH sold the construction line to Dresser who sold it to Komatsu - still making under the name of Dressta. The 100 and 125 were good machines - very few problems and had the steering cluthces andbrakes in oil in rear frame - the 150 still has the old dry clutches and brakes that would rust up if left sit for long time. Can still get parts thru local Komatsu dealer.

IH/Dresser stuff is ok, I'm not sure you will get the longevity of a Cat machine but it's not in the Cat price range either, for some reason IH crawlers left a bad taste in peoples mouth from years ago but nobody can tell me why, me thinks Komatsu has their hands in the Dresser pie nowdays.

I don't have but one old customer running a piece of IH equipment. It's been several years since I worked on it for him, and I don't remember what model track loader it was, but he liked it and never had any major problems out of it. The only thing it couldn't stand up to was getting hit by a train. His son high centered their trailer across one of the busiest tracks in the area. They said the train was still running about 50 when it hit, tearing the trailer in half and throwing the loader close to 150ft. It was hit so hard it actually bent the track frame in the middle, not to mention making a pretzel out of the the lift arms. There weren't enough good parts left to even call it a parts machine. That's been about 2 years ago, and he planned to replace it with another IH, and he hasn't called yet to say it's broke, so the "new" one must be running as good as the old one did. I know that's not a glowing report, but like you said, there isn't alot of it out there anymore to make a really good judgment off of. Of course that fact in itself should say something..... . Good luck in your search for a machine.
