Cat D6 9U brake bands

Dose any one know if the there is a way to remove and replace the three piece brake bands with out removeing the hole drum assemble. Ive removed the right side band but had to used a torch. We could not rotate the band enough to reach the last set of bults. there must be a better way, any help would be nice. Big Ed.

Bob is right about the support bolts. Also you need to make sure that the adjustment is backed all the way out. remove the back cover and remove the nuts rotate each section of the band until you have removed each. It is not very easy to put back but being very patient it will work.

Ed, dry clutches have supporting bolts to hold the bands up off the drum, have you loosened them off. They are tightned right up then backed off only a turn and a half, they might be holding the band from turning. Later Bob

Bob: your my hero, I set there lying on my back starring at that supporting bolt and I never did put it together. loosining the supporting bolt should make putting things go back together a lot smoother. thanks Bob

There is an old boy near my hometown that can replace the bands through the back hole! I have seen him do it on our 9U
