What TD14 or TD 14A do I have?

I recently inherited an International Bulldozer with a ranch that I purchased. I'm attempting to learn exactly what it is. I believe the serial number is TDF 9466 4 (Its hard to read. The number is on a plate on the dashboard). The engine number is TDFM 28742. It has a cylinder-opertated Bucyrus Erie blade. After scratching about 4 coats of paint, there is a TD 14 decal on the side of the tank. One coat of paint is military green, which makes me wonder if this was built for the Korean War. What does the "M" indicate in the engine number? No one seems to know. My father was a bulldozer operator and I'm thinking about restoring it in his honor. Any helpful hints or thoughts about what I have would be appreciated. Also, as I get into restoration, I'll be interested in knowing who may have parts for this. From Tucson, home of the Wildcats, David

You must not be doing your "homework"; I live near Eugene, Oregon and have discovered that Washington state probably has more TD-14/TD-14A crawlers and dozers than the rest of the states COMBINED. I personally know of at least 6 TD-14s and one TD-14A, most of the present owners can't get the gas over diesel to start (gas left in the system turns into VARNISH).....most operators have 2 of the TD-14s, one is for parts. Here's a little secret I'll share with with all you International gas-over -diesel engine operators. Take a 5-gallon gas can to your nearest small Airport, go to the local FBO (fixed based operator) and have them fill your gas can up with 100LL (low lead) aviation gasoline. If they ask what the fuel is for, tell them it's for a friends Piper Cub that landed "off Airport" out of fuel. Expect to pay $2.00 -$3.50 per gallon. It's LIGHT BLUE in color(all aviation gasolines have color dyes in them; supposedly stops line boys from filling your piston-engine airplane with turbine (Kerosene)fuel. The 100LL gas is 100 OCTANE; put this into the little gas tank on your International and I'll GUARANTEE your engine will START MUCH QUICKER than the 87/88 octane "mogas".

We have a parts machine here as well as some new aftermarket parts. We also have the manuals available. JerePa is right, if you get yourself the manuals you'll be glad you did.

The suffix code for early crawlers came after the ser. number starting with the letter T. (T6A = HD track roller shield) or (T4M = US Marine). If your ser # has no suffix, it has no special features. The eng #TDFM is common to all engines. M is used to differentiat the tractor & eng. ser. numbers on these early crawlers. Get a parts, owners & service manual. You will be glad you did. Good luck.

I don't have an answer for your questons I just wanted to say I think it is great that you want to restore the TD-14 in honor of you father. My Dad's father was born in 1888 and was a dozer operator after WW1. My mother's father was born in 1901 and was a farmer all his life. He bought a TD-6 about the time he retired and he enjoyed that tractor more than any other that he had owned. He also had a TD-9 that I bought with him before he died in 1982. I still have both of them plus a D8 that my Dad owns. I think I will start fixing them up for the same reason that you are. Thanks for the encouragement.
