I am new to crawlers and am looking at getting a small Oliver or International for around the farm. Most ads state the amount of wear on the undercarriage. Can anyone give me a ball park idea of the costs to rebuilt it with new or used parts. I am very mechanically inclined and have access to just about any tools I could need, but I really have no idea what parts are available for these crawlers, and what the costs could be. Thanks

its too broad a subject to give an accurate estimate. i worked a machine,(case310) for several years with a worn out undercarriage, just had to be careful, and put the tracks back on occasionally. i recently rebuilt another 310, at a cost of $2250, and put the old tracks on the other 310. now i have 2 good working machines. roughly figure in the thousands unless it only needs minor repair, just a roller or 2. best source for undercarriage parts- industrial tractor parts, long island, pittsburgh, berco is the brand, made in italy. good luck

The cost is going to depend greatly on how you will use it and how many hours you expect to get. When you know this and the condition then you can estimate the cost. What %life now to desired % life. I am rebulding the undercarriage on a D2 cat. I am at $2,300 now and haven't evaluated the rollers yet. I am doing it myself so I hope to get out for less than $4,000 (learning as I go and enjoying it) Oh yes if you don't have a good shop setup then don't worry you will before you finish the project.

There are to many modiles of small crawlers out there to give very close price on repairs. Look at the sprockets, if they are sharpe you need new weld on rims or new completesprockets. Feel the bushings in the center of th tracks and if you feel worn grove or a broken hole you need either new p& b installed oryou may need new or used rails. The roller may be worn out. If you pick the front of the macine up with the dozer or loader try to move the rollers. If they move you will have to repair or replace them. Check the front idler for cracks were the track runs on and try to move them side ways. hope this helps. the undercarriage is where the expense is in repairing a crawler. I have & can get new used & rebuilt parts. I also do track press work. Call if I can help. 920-336-3036

For small dozers, figure on 5 to 10,thousand. Large dozers, 10 to 20 thousand. If you have money left over you can make other needed repairs or stop at Hardees for a biscuit or two. Worlds best way to go broke, is to start out working a dozer with a worn out undercarriage. Don,t walk away, run. Been there. alvinnms
