I was looking for some land today to set up a small mobile office away from the road to run a startup buisness. I found this piece of land for sale next to a river. I got out of my truck and looked over the land and found this huge brown/yellow crawler next to the road under brush. it looks to be complete, but I dont know much about this equipment. Im going back tommorow to take pictures. I like working on diesel engines so I looked it over and it seems to have a inline 6 mechanical fuel pump with a fuel gauge under it. The engine looks to have 3 sets of heads. Theres no top on the engine compartment. The air cleaner is next to the huge seat. It had a spark plug sticking out the back left side of the engine. I thought this was a way to warm up the intake air? Thats all i can remember for now. I really would like to get my hands on this thing so i can restore it. I think it might fire up. I just have to figure out does it come with the property or who owns it. Any ideas on what it is or how much its worth fixed up? Worth messing with?

I would say that's a Cat No6 loader the forerunner to the 977,its fifty + years old and is a collectors item, they were only in production for couple of years,go to the Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club at www.acmoc.org and you can find out more about it and what it might be worth. Please don't consider scrapping the old girl till you give the collectors a chance,I'm sure someone will want to revive it. By your pictures, it is the loader version of the D-6 Caterpillar. You have to figure if it is worth fixing up yourself. Some folks are willing to tackle a basket case while some want to only start with something already in good running condition. Just depends on what you are willing to tackle. Harold H
