I found a good deal on a 450 dozer with the dry clutches. I plan to do clear some trees and I have some other projects for it. All in all I would use it about 5 hours a week. Right now it steers great and show no signs of any problems. Should I make a move on it or just forget it? Are these dry clutches junk altogether or are they ok for somebody not going to work them all day? It seems to be the only dozer I can find that has the horsepower and weight I need but at a price I can afford. The entire dozer seems to be in great mechanical condition. Please respond with any thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Always , Always tarp the rear of the machine.. These machines are very reliable . But very suseptable to water infiltration of the steering clutches.. Keep rain / snow off the back half of the machine with a tarp, covering from the dashboard , over the back , to the bottom of the tanks....good luck

The 450's with dry clutches are a relativley reliable machine. The key is to USE the machine. The problems occur when the machine has not been used. After sitting the steering clutches tend to freeze up. This is the draw back of dry clutches.
