OK i have a nice JD ICD 440 dozer have used a good bit and finally put a new undercarriage under it. Today I ran it about 2 hrs and the left track decided it didnt want to pull, there was no noise made when this happened.I loooked in the final aces hole and the clutch basket was turning and stopped when lever was pulled like it should, we put new clutches in it less than one year ago and made sure the pressure plate was good and tight with lock nuts and such, looks like the final shaft may have snapped ot stripped. the axle is good and tight so i dont think it broke. HAve you rad this happen? any comments welcome. here or my email

It was bull gear, splines gone on inside.

Mike i feel it could be several things one would be a seal leaking and just got enough on clutches to start slipping another could be moister could have rusted things up again specially if everything is tight and good, worn out louse things don't generally freeze up could be new undercarriage high grousers bite in and you took teeth off fiber disk Bottom line you will have to tear that side down again if you need parts i can help

Ed , I doubt it is the clutches. As i said we rebuilt thr finals last winter. totally! new seals, bearings, clutches, plates, everything! the clutch basket is turning and stoping with lever actuation also. It would appear that it is after the clutch and in the latter part of finals. like pinion shaft or bull gear. It did this very suddenly not gradually, machine is used regularly so the stuff should not be setting up.

Mine snapped the shaft like that. Bigger problem for me was keeping bearings in the final drive when working it hard. Went to a new home and I switched brands.

PS,,,,, the track did not lock so it could be steered to the left, it just free wheeled as though it were totally disengaged.

It may have either spun the splines out of the bull gear, or the pinion gear, probably moe likely the bull gear. I have heard of that a lot. Lavoy
