The lefthand brake band appears not to be totally on the drum at the bottom of the drum area. I have tried to move it over with little success. How difficult is it to get to the band and replace it. does the rear sprocket and housing have to be removed.

I have seen this happen a few times. The band is up on top of a tab that is supposed to keep it in place. It happens when the final is installed, and the drum pushes the band out of place. Usually it will cut the band in two. Lavoy

Ralph,
My name is Doug Tonner and have just torn apart a JD 440 and I have the brake bands off but got a quote of $1000.00 for both sides of the brakes. It does not look like there really is that much material to be worth that much money. Please let me know if you have any information on where to get these parts for a lot cheaper. Thanks a lot,
Doug
