Cat D3 with 3204 engine. Had a loose precup seal and my brotherin law (he's the mechanic) and I were pulling the head to check it. In the process, we discovered a leak in the exhaust manifold. Anyone have any suggestions on where we might find a used or aftermarket one? New ones are over $400 from Cat. Thanks.

Found a part number but Regal and Maxx don't have any used or aftermarket; old # is 4N0085 and the new number is 8N9236. At the price it looks like I am going to have to pay for a new one, I suggest you buy some Cat stock.

Hope you haven't bought one yet! I work for the Cat dealer in SC and we have a big used parts division. Don't have the number for them right with me, but if you'll call 803.791.7100, they can give you the correct number. Hope this helps! Jim

We are trying to find a parts number but unfortunately we don't have the engine parts book. We had the head magnafluxed and it is in good shape. We plan to run the bead and try it. My brother in law says sometimes it works and sometimes the manifold just disintegrates.

grandlaker, No doubt that it will repair ,if it is thin and rusted or burned badly keep the arc weld away from it . Use oxy/acet cast iron (the old square rod ). Check out these pict's for some serious manifold repair . It's not complete yet but it's close. www.imageevent.com/gmachine , george

You might try to get it welded or try and find a Used Parts dealer. They are all linked up on the net to one an other and can likely find one and have it shipped to them if they don't have it there. Have a good look at the head and make sure it isn't cracked at the loose precup. Later Bob
