To all who are doing steering clutch repairs check with your local automotive clutch rebuilders for clutch parts including dics and plates. also local bearing distributors will have most of your seals and bearings. This may keep you from getting milked.

steve as far as the back it almost looks as thought it can be welded my father isnt around right now so im not sure if he knows what happened to the supports. i think that you should be able to fabricate them with 1/2" steel perhaps even 3/4" i wish i could give you the dimensions because that would make it easieri feel that taking everything into consideration measure it out, as far as the height that you are looking to attain then add that to the height of the rops and the height of where the canopy mounts the measurement for the square piece of steel should be able to be attained from right off the dozeras far as how far back the bracket goesby extending the front arms with say 2" pipe, i think that that should slip over it , to just use as a gunner to measure where both the lenght of the front extensions and the appropriate setback for the back bracket. if you have any questions send me an email and i will send you a sketch of how to fabricate the brackets, good luck and i wish i could be more help- rich

Does anyone know if it,s a big deal to replace the seal in the final to keep it from leaking into clutch housing? I have the final in my garage and I'm wondering if I need to have the shaft pressed out to get accsess to the oil seal??? Everything else looks pretty easy. THANKS Steve

Steve i,
'm not sure on a 350 but the older ones you just take the bearing cap off the outside of the final and there is a snap ring you take off and the shaft slides right out but the 350 may be different hope this helps

Heck, as I used to say to the old cow....You have just begun to be milked..... ..:> :>

Steve I do not remember clearly but I believe you can just punch the seal out and replace. The manual is not in front of me but is it the barn. Do you have a manual at this point?

Yes I do have the service manual. I was able to remove the snap ring on the final drive shaft and bang the shaft through the bearing. On my machine there are two seals each facing inward. I was able to get one from JD. I will use one old seal, it all looks good. They say to fill the cavity between the seals with "lubriplate" what the heck is that? Can I use grease? Also after all the discs are in place do I need to adjust the pressure plate? THANKS Steve

Go to a autoparts store and get both seals place one faceing in and one out grease between then put shaft in and check preload on bearings this is very important if you want the bearings to stay in takes some time but sure worth it.Do everything the manual says it pays in the long run
