I rebuilt engine, and all is new. What would cause oil to become blackened within minutes. Engine is completely clean on inside. Could it be the timing?

Is your oil getting thin too? You may have unburned fuel getting into your oil.It could be leaky injector(s).

Hi, Doug. I am not trying to cast doubts on your ability as a mechanic/fitter but two possibilities occur to me: 1. How well did you clean out the inside of the block and sump and the oil pump before re-assembly? If there any sizable deposits of old 'gunk' left in there, they would immediately begin to discolor the oil. It is virtually impossible to clean ALL the oil galleries in some engine blocks and heads without resorting to acid and/or steam. I'm not familiar with the diesel 500 motor so I have no idea how hard or easy it might be to clean. 2. The compression rings may be allowing major blowback into the sump. Hope this helps. I'd be interested to hear what the final answer turns out to be. Merry Christmas. You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
