looking at a 580 ck forklift gas engine, what are some things to look for on a lift like this torque converter seems good engine runs good, except wants to die if you push the acclerator too quickly. also what is the pedal under the driver's seat on the left side of the tractor looks like it goes to a valve where the shuttle control lever hooks into what does it do ?

That pedal is a declutch pedal- it just disengages the clutch pack in the shuttle. We had a 580CK forklift with a gas engine at the Case shop I worked at. We used it daily, and used it hard... We had to put a starter on it once, points once, and we were forever tinkering with the carburator and sediment bowl, but overall it was a reliable machine.

The engine may need a good tune up,the pedal would be the nudge pedal, you would use it if in a tight spot or if you wanted to lift the forks with the truck stopped without taking it out of gear, you would press the pedal the drive would disengage, you could rev up and lift the forks without going out of gear.
