Hopefully the computer books that are coming will help. Anyways I got the information exchanged, and that is what I got this computer for. Regards again Zoltan

i own 3 case 310's, i like them, but there are a few drawbacks. the differential, would be #1, it tends to spin a track quite often, when getting into heavy work. as far as value, i paid 3000 for 2 of them, both were running, one is a d310g, the other a g310d. none of my machines have a torque converter, however i ran an older terramatic that did. parts can be a problem, case doesnt carry much anymore, and what they do have is pretty pricey. for example $300 for the clutch disc alone. its the same size as a ford pinto clutch by the way. track cleaning is a problem i agree with ray, gotta work on covers. and the sprockets tend to be weak in the splines. ray, im looking for some parts for both of my machines, can we get together, either email, or phone, im in pa. email is jjwsr@dfnow.com jim

When you say "spinning a track" do you mean one track stops driving? I'm pretty sure the Case 310s have the same Clark transaxle that the Cletrac HGs, OC3s, OC4s, Avery tractors, Bombadiers, etc. all use. No steering clutchs, just a differential with a brake drum and band on each side of it. Drives me nuts on my Cletracs sometimes, because, in certain conditions only one tracks spins and the other stops - unless I hit one of the steering brakes. I wish there was an easy way to lock them together - like a differential lock.

yes, thats exactly what i mean. if a track breaks loose on soft ground, ya sit there spinning, hard on tracks, and wastes time. the other annoying problem is that they tend to wander a little, especially when climbing a hill, under a no load condition. but overall, for what they are, i do enjoy running them. theyre not cat 973's, but ya can get a fair amount of work outta them, within their limitataions

Good Machine. Simple and easy to work on systems. I don't think the 310s yet came with torque converter. Just straight stick-shifts. Parts still available thru Case and after-marketers. (I have a 350 Dozer. Just a newer machine)

I just worked on a Case 310 that has a torque-coverter drive and a Case 188D diesel engine. I've also worked on a few with Continental gas engines that also had the torqueconverter. At first, the torqueconverter was an option ca. 1956 before Case bought the company and was called the "TerraMatic" drive. Case bought, or merged with Terratrac (American Tractor Co.) ca. 1957. I think all the subsequent crawlers carrying the Case name had torqueconverters. Terratrac GT-25 and GT-30 became Case 310 and 320.

I have a 310E diesel and love it but it doesn't have a torque converter. It's a straight shift between low and reverse but you need clutch and full stop before shifting. I'm amazed at how much power the little thing develops. I also have a 40HP 4wd tractor and there's no comparison. My only complaint is the work of cleaning tracks Jim

I'm no expert on them, but as I recall, isn't it basically a old Terratrack with a Case engine and torqueconverter stuck in it? When Terratrac made it they used a Continental gas engine and clutch drive. Case bought the company and put their own engine in it, so engine parts should be no problem. Transmission, I belive, was made by Clark and is the same as used in the little Cletrac HGs, OC-3s, and OC-4s. So, transmission parts are probably okay to get too. As far as the track parts and final drives, I don't know.

Gentlemen: I am located in Alberta. I have a Case 188 diesel engine out of 310F crawler loader that has very poor compression but is complete (water pump to flywheel, oil pan to valve cover, oil filter to injection pump). Hydraulic pump mount and clutch can may also be available, depending on whether or not I use them on the new engine. These parts will be available as soon as I complete an engine swap, probably by spring. If any parts would help someone, E-Mail me directly, as I am new to these new computers and am unsure of my ability to monitor this or any other newsgroup or forum or what ever it's called. I was lucky enough to find a Perkins 4-236 diesel (my preferred engine manufacturer) with low hours to repower my 310f crawler loader with, so the 188d is surplus to my needs. My experience was that although this is an extremely popular engine, finding one can be a huge pain when you are actually lookig for one. My Case needs rails (track chain), drive sprockets and upper track rollers. Also does anyone have a gauge for the undercarriage gauge for measuring wear? Even a traced outline of one would help so I could cut one out. If someone could recommend a parts source in Alberta I'd sure appreciate it. If I have made an error in posting this or violated web rules in posting this here, I'd love to here about it. Modern computers are new to me, as is the Web. Regards Zoltan
