You guys who talk about holding a driving pin are CRAZY, :) Get a chunk of pipe or something and weld a handle to it.:) Then give your friend some beer.

to get the machine out of the bush, torch a couple holes in the pads and bolt a very heavy duty chain cross the top of the pads. (2 chains needed. then back the machine up to drive it, when you see the chain come up to the sprocket, just creep and it will go around. we moved a d8 high track 6 miles backwards at -45C. then the boss rented the pin press from cat and we fixed it in the nice heated shop. thanks

yes 50 ton would press 1010 pin but if it is worn track anyway why not just blow it out with tourch then grind pins drive them in and weld them in place. The trouble with pressing them is supporting the back and without holding them sercure it can be dangerious

the dozer is about a mile off in the woods across two creeks stuck in the hole i dug the aesyist thing i could get down there is a small press with a little red wagon.do you think a couple of u bolts and a couple big c clamps would hold things in place.things never break down where you want them to.

If you can get the pin out like Ed said, I have some extra drive master pins laying around, and I have used them in the past to repair a track without a press around. They are easier to drive in than a regular pin as they are relieved in the center. Lavoy

i doubt u bolts, and c clamps will hold. is the track chain broke completely? or just one side? if only one side, try an appropriate length of heavy log chain, and a bolt to draw it, run thru the holes on the chain. if you can manage to draw the chain together, it might hold long enough to get ya to a better spot. be careful tracking tho, when the log chain comes to the sprocket, its gonna want to throw it. ya gotta back off the track tension too, this method once got me a half mile to the trailer, and back to the shop, although it was a noisy jerky ride. 1010 chain pins, should be driveable with a 12 lb sledge, and a short piece of drill steel, ya gotta have a steady holder tho, who trusts ya. good luck, jim

thanks for all the info.I used a comalong instead of a chain tho.just put the hook in one of the pads crosed the cable a couple a times through the pads hooked the comalong to one of the pads pulled it back together put a cable clamp where the cables crosed. tied the comalong on the inside of the pads and drove it to the house.think i'll call berco tomorrow and get some track chains

Susie, I am a Berco distributor, and if you email me I will quote you on these tracks. You will have to use a 350 track and put different sprocket rims on because the 1010 has 1 9/16 bushing and 350 is 1 3/4 inch bushing. I have these parts in stock and can ship from a warehouse close to you.
