This is a 8230B the problem I'm having with it is that I lose oil pressure in the transmission when I de-accelerate and shift from forward to reverse and vice versa. Transmission pump seems to be o'kay, can't seem to find any air leaks in the suction tubes. Do not see that much wear in the valve body. Transmission is completely tore down and we are putting all new seals and gaskets plus bearings if needed. Hate to put transmission back into the dozer if I've not found the problem.

Greeniron mentioned the pressure regulator valve . Check to make sure it is not sticking or a piece of foreign material is not in there holding it partially open and it has to rev up to get enough volume and pressure to overcome the fluid loss caused by one of these conditions. The nearly no pressure at idle or low rpms leads to look for a pressure or volume leak.

New to Terex"s
How can you tell the difference between a 82-20 , 30 , 40
What motors did each have Were any of the final drives the same or all different
What is each models weight?
Thanks

We looked at pressure regulator valve last year, but we intend to look at it again.

Yes the transmission did have water in the oil 2 years ago. We changed it and put Case IH Hy tran in it. Then I heard you shouldn't use that oil that was after we quit running it. Change to Shell oil. This didn't help anything so we got it tore apart. I have a new gasket and seal kit coming. Is it possible to have so many leaks around the seals that the pump cannot keep up with the supply that's needed.

Gene,i run the same oil in the trans as i do in the engine. You didn`t say if this problem happens hot or cold also can you tell me if the trans just lost drive or did the pressure gauge show no pressure. If my memory is right that machine should have a CRT 6030 allison

The pressure gauge does not show any pressure until you rev the engine up to maybe half thottle then it picks the oil up and I assume it trips the trimmer valve and then slams into forward or reverse which ever you have selected. Then when you shift to the opposite gear again you lose pressure. If you de-accelerate the pressure gauge slowly drops until the brakes activate. Not much difference if the oil is hot or cold. This transmission is CRT6031. Acts like there might be so many leaks inside the transmission that the pump can'nt keep up. In other words it acts as if the pump loses its prime every time you shift from forward to reverse in every range as long as the engine is half thottle or better the pressure stays up. This has gotten worse as I've used it. When I bought this tractor 2 years ago I noticed a little hesitation between forward and reverse but did not think too much about it. I don't believe it is a suction problem since we tore into the transmission and can see nothing wrong there. I suppose there could be a cracked oil galley in the transmission housing.

Ok ,it`s not what i thought it might be.I have had water in oil before but in that case the machine only lost drive after it had warmed up and still had good oil pressure,in that case all i had to do was to idle machine back and roll a smoke and it would work fine again until next time (apart from getting rid of water out of oil which had got in through the top plate) I have had a pump failure with the same symptoms as you discribe but on pump teardown it was very very noticeable that it was the problem, as in no bearings left and the gears had worn the housing away There is a screen in the pump that you can only get to after you remove the pump off trans, did you find it? I don`t mean to sound like a smart#@* but u did find the main pressure regulator valve on top of the trans housing ? If the brake and steering system was working as it should it`s unlikly to have anything to do with your problem even though it works off trans oil pressure. It gets the oil after the main trans pressure regulator valve

Yes, we had checked the screen in the pump a year ago and now that we have taken it apart again, it was clean then and it is clean now. Is it possible that there is a valve that is stuck open or partly open that wouldn't let the pressure build up as it should? Springs on the valves seem to be alright but we will check them again. Should get the O rings gaskets and seals today but I hate to start putting the transmission back together until we have checked the housing and anything else we can think of before assembly.

well the only valves you have after the pump is filter bypass valve which is set at 18-21 psi into the sequence valve set at 110 psi then splits ,one line going to main pressure valve set at 130-140 psi onto converter, the other line going to control valve which is your gear shift that operates on 110 psi which is full of all kinds of springs, valves and sliding things but all of the above would be noticable if there was somthing wrong with them. who are you going through to get the reseal kit and how much are they charging you for the it

I believe that it is Parts Unlimited out of Kansas City I am not at the shop where I have their phone number. They quoted me a price of $1000. for seal and gasket set for the valve bodies, gear pump, everything with the transmission. Sounds a little high? $62 or 63 for the clutch disks and $32 or 33 for the reaction plates these are new.

sounds to me as though you are going to have to have a thorough tear down including planetry bearings, leaveing no stone unturned, so to speak. Last trans that was rebuilt here cost us $4,863.06 australian just for parts then there was labour on top of that Is that scaring you yet

Planetary bearings seems to be tight and no play in the gears. Like you I don't want to spend any more than I have to but I want it work right, I believe this transmission has been overhauled before as good as everything looks.

Try asking on this site, they might be able to point you in the right direction, there are a lot of knowlegable people who participate and there has been some "green machine" discussions over there. After a tear down like that, I'd want to know too!!
