350 REVERSOR

In the process of rebuilding a 350 reversor,have all the parts, noticed that some of the piston rings have been replaced with rubber o rings(parts no.t42467,t39404 etc.)Was hoping one of you guys can give some insight on this.Dosent seem right to me...But then again why do birds fly...lol Wing

That change was made a long time ago (mid-late 70s as I recall). The older reversers in the 1010s and 350s had iron piston rings, and also different clutch disks than you'll get now. I liked the looks of the older parts better, but . . . I've rebuilt an awful lot of reversers and piston-ring failure is rare, regardless if it's the old or new style. It does seem, though, that the older clutch disks were less apt to warp when overheated. Biggest problem in that reverser, especially an older one, is too small a center bearing (in-between the input and output shafts). Deere updated the front shaft to one that uses a larger bearing.

JDEMARIS... Is it a problem to run the rubber o-ring with the cast piston ring...From the parts i have recieved some are rubber and some are cast piston rings..thanks once again wingnut
