After a morning of deer hunting I decided to repair the Parking brake on my Case 450B dozer. I detached the parking cable by pulling the two pins attached to the cable under the floor panel. After oiling the cable, I connected back up. I also filled up the two master cylinders that were low of fluid. I pulled forward and the parking brake works. The bad news is that now the left track appears to have the brake applied all the time. If I try and backup, the dozer will not turn to the right while backing up. I also noticed that with the dozer in gear and applying right brake the drive shaft turns, if only the left brake is applied, the drive shaft never turns. The dozer will sit idle for weeks at a time. Last time I used it before today, all was working well. Please help this shade tree mechanic. Thanks in advance.

Those master cylinders can get crud in them (rust etc.) and it's sometimes cheaper to replace them than it is to try to hone & rebuild them. I just put new ones on my 450B ---got them from NAPA at one third the cost of Case. When removing the cylinders from the machine, it's a piece of cake if you take out the mounting bracket for the pedals and cylinders by removing three half inch bolts that hold it to the fire wall. Good Luck--Let us know how you make out. John in NY

first you should NOT use the brakes to stear. try bleeding the side that is hung up.a lot of the time rust will build up in the line and keep them from releaseing post back if thet did't work

Thanks for all the quick responses. When you mentioned that it simply may not be releasing back to the position before brakes are applied,I went out and tapped on the arm that the parking brake attaches to that has a big return spring. It makes sense that after 22 years it may not have the abilty to return back to the non-braking position.Though it did not appear to really move, it was enough to release the brake pressure. I am back in business. Thank You very much.

Guys, thanks again for helping narrow down problem. I would spend all my time on this dozer if I did not have to go to work. Great machine for light clearing. Here is a link to view the dozer.
