The setup on the Hitachi track adjuster is,going in from the idler, the idler sits in a U shaped frame which is square, that sits in slots in the track frame, the recoil and adjuster sits behind it,the valve for adjustment goes through a hole in the retaining plate for the recoil and you get to it through the hole in the side of the track frame, the valve is a safety type device, when you unscrew the valve body 3 or 4 turns it lets the grease escape and the pressure is relived, you can now unscrew the valve the rest of the way,the valve carries an o'ring in a groove, put the grease gun on the nipple and see if you can pump grease through,if not thats your trouble and you will need to strip the valve, all that is inside is a ball and spring, the piston in the adjuster is not retained,ie if you wanted to get it out and had the idler out of the way you would just keep pumping and the grease would push it right out of the cylinder,I have never seen one of them pistons seize up,it will only take you a minute to take the valve out to check it,by referring to the valve I am not talking about the grease fitting but what the fitting screws into, think its 30 or 32mm wrench size,Good Luck AJ

if it's like a CASE it has a stoper plug to stop the grease from coming back out and you have to lossen it to get grease in should be on the side of the piston

Try a new grease fitting ...sometimes they can cause that problem...also release it some and retry pumping it up...to see if it stops at the same area...its a pretty basic piston in the end of the recoil spring...make sure the idler shaft isnt broken making it look like the idler isnt all the way out...I'm also assuming that the idler is loose enough in the track frame to let it be pushed out further...
