I have an old plain 450 and I am very happy with it. I bought the machine to do the same thing to thistle trees. I never run out of power, just traction. I must say though that I am not using it to down anything that big. I need new cleats, so I can't take on anything too big . . . yet :) One thing that may be obvious is to down them when the ground is wet and not frozen. It make a mess but you'd be amazed by how much easier they fall when its wet out. If you get one, watch out for steering problems, I understand they are common if not used and can be expensive to fix. Mine steers ok now and I plan to go out and use it at least once a month to keep it that way.

Just a suggestion..I'm not familar with JD...but getting a loader might be more useful...It makes it easier to push down trees and move them around..I was going through the same thing ended up with a CAT 955H..man o live those trees push over easy...roots and all. I must agree get ROPS it has already saved my butt.

Yes, did it with my 350 (dry clutches!) just dandy, dug around the trees bigger than 10", ROPS saved my arse. A 450 would have been sweeter.

I'd say you'd probably be ok, we had a 450 a long time ago, take your time, use caution, make sure you have good solid overhead protection, brush cage etc., can be dangerous work and falling limbs / trees show no mercy.

Yes, it's a powerful machine for its size. It will push circles around a 350.

See my post below, "Near miss tonight". I was very surprised at the power of a JD 450C. Unfortunately, the way I saw it was when one got out of control and shoved a Ford F450 around a little. Be careful. David
