I got a model 40 Ford skidsteer with a V4 German made engine, last night plowing snow within a matter of a few minutes after starting it in 5 below 0 degrees. I noticed the exhaust pipes and muffler were glowing red hot, I believe this is a carb problem burning too rich. The carb has been a problem since I got this, machine sat for quite some time and carb was heavily corroded inside. Does anyone have a carb for one of these or a carb off another engine that might fit, its a downdraft, mounting holes center to center are 2 7/8 and the center hole is 1 1/4 inch. I believe also the timing could be a problem but that leads to another problem, I loosened up the distributer to turn it and its froze.

You might have a timing problem. That is what generally makes headers glow. The carb on your engine is possibly available thru Sabb. Check on the internet for Sabb Sonnet parts. The engine was used in that car when it was made.

For future reference, if you need internal parts for this engine I believe the 2.9 ford Bronco II engine uses a lot of the same parts, but a Saab parts source is also an excellent alternative source, too. Good luck.
