I have had and run the TD 9, the TD 6 , the JD 350, several oc4 and 5's and 2 AC HD5's. The AC's have it all over the other machines. They are in my opinion user friendly. They also seem to be more responsive.

Actually Rick if you're really serious about possibly purchasing this dozer, go to the Redpower website, where all they talk about is IH stuff (especially crawlers). I've added the link below. What you might want to do is talk to the experts on the Redpower site and then have them guide you with a set of questions to pose to the owner, and also inform you of what to look for (including running-performance tests). Then maybe you can take detailed pictures of the dozer and post them? Especially take detailed, clear pictures of the tracks, rollers/idlers and sprockets. Post them, and you'll really start getting some good feedback that will flesh out the value of the machine in short order. And of course the best route is to hire an old pro who knows these machines to have a look at it (or at least buy him a six pack!). Good luck...

What year is the dozer Rick? How many hours? What kind of condition is it in? And especially what condition is the undercarriage? I'm no IH expert, but I recently bought an old '69 IH 150 loader, which is basically a TD9B dozer with a Drott loader on it. From my research TD9B's (which are from the 60's and 70's) in good fully functional condition are commonly sold for $4000-$9000. Some a little less, some a little more. So the $15k for the smaller TD7 sounds high, unless it's a much newer machine and in very good shape. Although winches do add a bit of value, as long as they are in good working order. Plus the newer machines have ROPS, which is worth a thousand or two more in my book too. But if it's an older machine (more than 25 years old) than $15k is pure fantasy in my view.

I haven't had a whole lot of experience with different dozers. I had a td7 a few years ago, and screwed up and sold it. I now have a Cat d3b. Now these are comparable machines, both in size and power, and probably quality. My big observation is that the td7 will absolutely work circles around the d3. The td7 is far more operator friendly, and easy to use. Jim

The TD8 IH was a very good dozier. A lot better than the 450- 550 JDs, back then. I think the same TD7 and TD8's are still manufactured by Dresser. goof

I bought a TD-7G last year and I love it. I used to run Case 450C dozer and it is not the machine the TD-7G is. The Dresser is 70 HP and 14000# machine, The Case 450C is a 64 HP and 12000# machine. The machine I bought is a 1990 and it had 1400 hours on it and it was in great shape. I give $20,000.00 for it and it was a good investment.
