Want to know if anyone would know what the cost would be to fix the steering clutches on a John Deere 440 dozer. It is about a 1960 model. Also where could I get the parts to fix it? If this dozer cost $2,500 would this be in the ball park price?

Tom, I have all the individual parts for the steering clutches for sale. I also have kits that will do a complete clutch with all the discs, pressure plate, brake band, throwout bearing, springs, and a gauge for setting the pressure plate. I also have bearing kits that include all of the bearings and seals for the final drives. Lavoy

I redid mine , got the parts from JD , Provided the pressure plates are ok. the metal discs are 25$ ea (depending on your model number) you will need 7or8 on each side , the fiber discs are also about 23$ and will need 6-7 on each side , May as well change throw bearing while you are in there 30$ EA , if brakes need doing they are 250$ from JD for REferbs. or you can get relined if you can find a place for about 100 EA. While i was in mine i changed the final bearings and seals and gaskets ,, all in all it ran around 1,200$ to do it all, if you need a phone number for JD let me know . also you can check with LAVOY , seems to me he had some after mkt clutch discs for less than JD.
